Erik ten Hag says Alejandro Garnacho is ‘great to work with’ and praises his attitude

Alejandro Garnacho is one of football’s rising stars and Sunday was his big breakout moment in the Premier League.

The Argentine teenager’s late winner gave United a 2-1 victory over Fulham, signing off on a high before the World Cup.

Garnacho, 18, was the hot topic of discussion in the post-game press conference, with absent Cristiano Ronaldo an afterthought.

Manager Erik ten Hag spoke highly of Garnacho, and also had a little warning for him too, about the distractions which could be ahead.

Ten Hag says Garnacho is great to work with

Erik ten Hag says he has been delighted with the youngster’s attitude, and says he admires greatly his ability to cope under pressure.

Garnacho showed this throughout the FA Youth Cup campaign last season, rising to the occasion to score twice in the final, and has continued to perform strongly for the first team.

Ten Hag was quoted by Eurosport: “That is fantastic. First, he shows the mentality you need. Under stress, he’s performing, he’s coming in, he has an impact, he has the belief. Twice in three, four days, so that is really good.

“He’s great. I like that he has a big belief and that’s great to work with. He likes football. He’s a real pleasure.”

Ten Hag has warning for the weeks ahead

Garnacho has scored two goals and provided two assists for Manchester United, all within the past month.

Now heading into the international break, Ten Hag warned Garnacho he has to keep his focus and avoid distractions.

He was quoted by The Independent: “He has to do much more to impress because he will be recognisable for everyone.

“For now it’s a four-week break and that’s already a danger for him because he is now in the momentum and that’s good, it’s a good thing this season and let’s see how he comes back.

“We have to manage that with him, but his energy is good and I am certain he will have an impact.”

Ten Hag appears to indicate that he is confident he can count on Garnacho for the second half of the season, providing the player can keep a level head.

With United set to head out on training camp to Spain to play a couple of friendly matches in December, Ten Hag can keep a close eye on him. It appears he is in good hands.
