Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on the comparisons between Alejandro Garnacho and Wayne Rooney or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Alejandro Garnacho is on cloud nine at the moment after his stunning overhead kick goal against Everton got Manchester United on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win at Goodison Park.
The overhead kick, which took everyone by surprise, was a thing of beauty and the Argentine had been waiting for that moment this season after a tough start to his second year in the United first team.
The comparisons are there between Alejandro Garnacho and Cristiano Ronaldo with the 19-year-old taking a lot of inspiration from the 38-year-old footballing icon.

Ten Hag on Ronaldo comparisons
Speaking after the game, Erik Ten Hag was asked about the comparisons between the Argentine and the Portuguese forward.
“Don’t compare, I don’t think it’s right,” said Ten Hag when the Rooney and Ronaldo comparison was put to him by The Guardian. “They all have their own identity. For Garnacho to go that way he has to work very hard and do it on a consistent basis.
“So far he has not, but he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things. It is not the first time we see this, we see often glimpses, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League.
“It’s not easy to get, you have to work very hard and go in ways where it hurts. A lot to come but he has potential.”
Garnacho’s challenge
With the current goalscoring struggles in the front line, Garnacho has a chance to be the main man at Old Trafford and the hope will be that he takes these chances.
When Ronaldo was breaking through at Old Trafford, the Portuguese forward was fast and dynamic but lacked the goalscoring abilities in his first few seasons.
After a couple of seasons under Sir Alex Ferguson’s tutelage, however, Ronaldo exploded onto the goalscoring scene and the hope will be that Garnacho can do similar under Ten Hag.
