When the final whistle was blown at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, boos rung around Old Trafford and it’s hard to disagree with the United faithful.
The Red Devils failed to create any chances of real significance but perhaps should have had a penalty when Joel Ward handled the ball that was heading to Marcus Rashford.
The simmering frustration really started during the early stages of the first half after Manchester United fell behind, the lack of vigour and forward momentum during their play was causing angst.
Well, the fans voiced their frustrations after the game and Erik ten Hag has given his reaction to the frustrations of the United fanbase.
Ten Hag’s view
Speaking after the game to the media, the former Ajax boss was asked for his thoughts on the crowd’s reaction and gave a typically passionate reply.
“I understand. When you play Palace you have to win, with all respect,” the 53-year-old said after the game. “Of course, that is a concern, we have to be more consistent, we need a row of wins.
“I can give you reasons but you will explain as an excuse. There are no excuses.”
Ten Hag is certainly right about that, there are no excuses for United after a poor day at the office like that.
Are United fans right to boo
Following the defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month, there was a chorus of boos following the ending of that game against Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
The fans were right to boo then and they are certainly right to boo now. The manner in which United conceded the only goal of the game and the relative ease with which Crystal Palace defended their lead for the subsequent 60 minutes, mean frustration was aplenty.
The crucial thing for the United fanbase is they must stick with Ten Hag. After such a promising season last year, the fanbase must stick with the Dutchman and trust he can turn things around.
