Erik ten Hag has reacted to Lisandro Martinez celebrating with a Manchester United fan during the 1-1 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

When Casemiro headed home a Luke Shaw cross to salvage a last-gasp equaliser in west London, it sparked wild and passionate celebrations in the United end.

It’s usually football fans that are pulling players towards them, but on Saturday evening, it was the fiery Argentine, who wears his heart on his sleeve, who was pulling a fan in his direction to celebrate together.

The 24-year-old, who has nine Argentina caps to his name, picked up his third Premier League booking of the season following his passionate celebrations at Stamford Bridge.

Ten Hag, who worked with United’s number six during their time together at Ajax, was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League match against Sheriff Tiraspol, whether the connection between Martinez and the fan was the passion the Dutchman was looking for.

When asked the question, the 52-year-old had a huge grin on his face, and he said: “We are United. And so, it’s on the pitch and we want to have a good relationship. We want to get a vibe in and fight together and I think Licha really expresses that always in his game – with what I call it is grinta (grit).

“With his [passion] what he’s bringing in. So every challenge, every duel, he gives everything he has, and I think the fans they love it.

“Not every player is like that, but I think you need some players in your team who express that, and I think that also gives a really good connection with fans.”
