Erik ten Hag press conference: Four Manchester United players set to miss trip to Cyprus

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has conducted his pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League clash with Omonia Nicosia.

Following United’s 6-3 battering to Manchester City on Sunday, the former Ajax manager spoke to the press ahead of tomorrow night’s game in Cyprus.

The 52-year-old was asked for an injury update ahead of the game that will see the twenty-time league champions come up against former Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

The big news is that World Cup winner Raphael Varane isn’t fit for the game having picked up an ankle injury when blocking Phil Foden’s shot in the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

United’s number 19, who was replaced by Victor Lindelof, joins Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Donny van de Beek on the sidelines. The quartet weren’t pictured training at Carrington this morning.

“Not available tomorrow (all four players),” said Ten Hag.

“Rapha [hopefully back soon], but Maguire will take a little longer. I can’t give a timeline on the other two.”

Maguire picked up an injury against Germany last month and both Wan-Bissaka and Van de Beek haven’t featured since coming off the bench in the win against Liverpool, at the end of August.

With United having back-to-back games against the Cypriot side, who have no points from their opening two games, Ten Hag will want his side to gain six points, which will put them in a good position of securing the all-important top spot with two games remaining.

In the Europa League, the top side progresses automatically to the knockout stage of the competition next year, while the runners-up meet a third-placed team from the Champions League in a play-off.
