Erik ten Hag opens up on his biggest frustration after Wolves win, he was not happy

Erik ten Hag has explained his biggest frustration following Manchester United’s 4-3 win over Wolves at Molineux.

Kobbie Mainoo netted late on to spare Manchester United’s blushes following a calamitous second-half performance, particularly in the final 30 minutes of proceedings.

United were dominant in the first 60 minutes of the game and, truth be told, should have been out of sight, and did make it 3-1 through Scott McTominay but failed to make the game safe.

Max Kilman and Pedro Neto scored in the final ten minutes which seemed to dumbfound Erik ten Hag but thankfully United got the victory, but these worrying signs remain.

Ten Hag’s frustration

After the emotional moment of Mainoo’s winner, which even got a typically subdued Ten Hag roaring with delight, the Dutchman typically took a dim view of some of his sides defending in the post-mortem of his press conference.

“It is more of those things, switching off, but it is also switching off when you are up, keeping the ball, “Ten Hag said, as per the United website.

“Save the ball and we want too much of wanting another goal. Instead of keeping the ball, and let the opponent run and now we go for goal, which has too much risk in losing the ball and we encourage opponents which makes us run more.

“Also especially now in this moment where the players in the team are not 100 per cent fit, you get split as a team and it is quite naive. When you are up and leading a game you should not run forward – just stay calm and keep the ball and make sure the defensive organisation is good.”

How United can improve

The structure out of possession has been United’s biggest flaw this season with the forwards told to press the defenders whilst the Red Devils’ backline are not pushed up high enough.

This essentially means that there is a rather large disconnect and the midfielders are easily picked off. This is something that has to be addressed otherwise United will continue to struggle and forfeit easy chances.

Another big game awaits for the Red Devils as they welcome David Moyes’ West Ham United and the hope is that United can be in control of the game, something that was lacking at Molineux.
