Erik ten Hag has offered an update on when Manchester United are expecting Christian Eriksen to return from injury.

Eriksen has been missing since the FA Cup victory over Reading and the initial prognosis from the club was a return in late April or early May.

After last night’s 1-0 win over Real Betis, Ten Hag was quoted by Danish outlet TV2 saying that Eriksen could now be back earlier than that.

Erik ten Hag issues Christian Eriksen injury update

He said: “It’s very positive. He has healed very quickly.

“I don’t think he’s ready for Sunday [against Fulham in the FA Cup], but he’ll be ready in April. He’s coming back, and we’re happy about that.

“He’s a class player that we need. I can’t wait for him to be back.”

Eriksen’s potential return comes at a time when Casemiro is facing a domestic suspension, and Donny van de Beek is out injured.

Marcel Sabitzer, the man brought in to account for Eriksen’s injury, has been struggling with a knock lately, but made his return in Betis last night.

Eriksen’s form had gone off the boil slightly since the World Cup but he adds class and creativity to the United midfield from deeper areas.

United will hope to have an FA Cup semi-final date at Wembley booked by the time Eriksen comes back, and have a Europa League quarter-final with Sevilla to look forward to next month too.

It is to be hoped that Eriksen can use the international break to finalise his recovery and come back fighting fit for the all-important run-in.
