Erik ten Hag was sacked by Manchester United four months ago.

In the wake of Manchester United’s dismal start to the 2024/25 season, Erik ten Hag was sent his marching orders.

The former Ajax boss was unable to make United a consistent force in the Premier League, but he did guide United to two trophies in his first two seasons at the club.

Ten Hag left United 14th in the Premier League as his two-and-a-half-year spell came to an end. The Dutchman was eventually replaced by Ruben Amorim yet never experienced a ‘new manager bounce’ as results and league position worsened.

Despite being initially backed by Ineos, sanctioning around £200m in the summer transfer window, it was clear that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanted his appointment in the dugout rather than a manager from the previous regime.

Erik ten Hag enjoying new job after Manchester United sack

After dealing with constant negativity from the British press, which made life harder for Erik ten Hag, the 55-year-old has had several months away from the spotlight.

Ten Hag appears to be enjoying himself after hinting he may never return to management after his dismissal from United.

He will be keeping his options open to evaluate every opportunity.

Ten Hag revealed he would be open to a new project so long as it suited him, but is currently happy working away from football with his family.

The former United manager is the son of Hennie, who owns a successful real estate company, while his brothers Michel and Rico are running several finance firms.

In an interview arranged by his representatives, SEG Agency, Ten Hag stressed he will try his best at whatever he does in the future.

“I don’t know how my career will develop,” Ten Hag told SEG Stories. “But I’m going to try my best.

“Provided something comes along that suits me. There are so many other things I could do.

“Maybe in football, in a new position as a manager. That’s an option. And maybe something completely different.

“I’ve been working with my brothers lately. We have our own company. Or rather: they have their own company.

“But we also run a company together with our father. That’s also something I love to do.
“I can now give that more attention and it’s also a lot of fun.”

The vast majority of United fans are thankful for what Ten Hag did at the club – from winning two pieces of silverware to developing United academy products like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

They will also undoubtedly keep an eye on his career moving forward.

Ten Hag can take note from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer journey

While Ten Hag ponders his future in or out of management, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently took his first job since being dismissed by United.

Solskjaer joined Besiktas to try his hand at Turkish football and so far it has been a major success, with the Norwegian coach turning his team’s season around for the better.

Besiktas won again on Thursday night taking Solskjaer’s record to six wins, one draw and one defeat.

Ten Hag could take encouragement from seeing a manager like Solskjaer move to unfamiliar surroundings and succeed.

The Dutchman still has plenty to offer in the sport.
