Erik ten Hag makes strong statement when asked if he’s the right man for Ineos

Erik ten Hag has been asked how he can convince Ineos that he is the right man for Manchester United.

Manchester United suffered their 14th defeat of the season following their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground with a late Morgan Gibbs-White goal condemning the Red Devils to another loss in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag cut a lonely figure as the minutes ticked down before the referee ended the game. Despite a late flurry of chances for the Red Devils, they were not good enough in the East Midlands.

The pressure is building on ten Hag and the Dutchman made a few rather bizarre decisions which has led to frustrations building amongst the fanbase.

Ten Hag on Ineos

Well, speaking to reporters after the game, the Dutchman was rather candidly asked if he thinks he is the right man for Ineos and the 53-year-old gave his answer.

“They know me and know when I have a squad that is available results will be there,” Ten Hag rather bullishly told the BBC.

“We were over-performing last year, so far this season we are under-performing. We have to step up. I have to lead the process”

United had a good season last year but the argument that this was a superb achievement will only serve to lower the standards at the club.

A trophy and Champions League qualification should be the bare minimum every season and now after over £200 million of Ten Hag’s targets, they are nowhere near the top four, never mind the title.

Ineos’ decision

You suspect once Ineos have their minority purchase of the club approved, they may well have a big decision to make and they will be responsible for this, despite only owning 25 per cent of the club.

Ten Hag is walking a very thin tightrope at this moment in time and if results continue to be inconsistent, the club may well be left with no other choice but to pull the trigger and change the manager.

Graham Potter is reportedly liked by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whether they would take a chance on the former Chelsea boss, after how his time at Stamford Bridge unfolded, remains to be seen.
