Erik ten Hag has made a point of collective success, rather than singling Manchester United’s stars out for too much individual praise.

The manager changed this approach after being delighted by Marcus Rashford‘s display against Arsenal.

Ten Hag spoke to Manchester United’s club website to express his happiness with the number 10’s contribution.

Rashford scored twice in the 3-1 win and provided the assist for Antony’s debut goal.

Erik ten Hag hails ‘brilliant’ Marcus Rashford

Speaking to the club website, Ten Hag said: “He was brilliant. It was a really great performance from him.

“As a striker, he was pressing. But also, when we played it over him and he was the target, he made the right decisions.

“For instance, also with the goal for Antony. Finally, he was twice in behind and finished. It was a great performance and I’m really happy because he has invested a lot.”

Ten Hag was talked about the two areas where Manchester United fans have criticised Rashford over the past 12 months.

The view has been that his work rate has not been good enough, and going back even further, his decision making has come under scrutiny.

These were the areas highlighted by Erik ten Hag as reasons he was pleased with Rashford, which shows something is going right.

Rashford is working hard, and buying into what his manager is demanding of him. The work on the training ground is clearly paying off.

The Manchester United star has three goals this season now, sitting as the club’s current top scorer. It’s early days, but this is already closing in on the paltry tally of five he scored in 2021/22.
