Erik ten Hag has given his thoughts as to whether Manchester United have been unlucky so far this season as the Red Devils prepare for the Champions League game against Bayern Munich.
The Dutch manager is seemingly under pressure after an underwhelming start to the new season with three defeats from the first five Premier League games.
United take on Bayern tonight in the UEFA Champions League tonight and will want to start their European campaign on the right track.
The Red Devils have been rather unlucky this season with certain decisions not going United’s way and Ten Hag has given his verdict on the situation.
Ten Hag’s thoughts
Speaking to the club’s official website, Ten Hag believes that United aren’t unlucky and need to do more.
“Yeah (we’ve been unlucky), but I think you put it right and you have to make your own luck,” the former Ajax manager said.
“We can’t be dependent on luck or un-luck. We can’t blame anybody else. We have to look in the mirror and get better results.”
United’s luck has certainly been against them so far this season but whether that is the sole reason behind the club’s poor start to the season, it is hard to say.
Is Ten Hag right
The Dutch manager is certainly not wrong, United have been unlucky.
Whether it’s Alejandro Garnacho’s disallowed goal by a hair’s breadth against Arsenal or the handball that wasn’t a handball against Tottenham Hotspur, the Red Devils have certainly been unlucky.
The bottom line is, however, that yes, United have had some bad luck with refereeing decisions but they were also poor during the second half of the Spurs game and defended terribly against the Gunners.
United have certainly been porous defensively and have conceded chance after chance in pretty much every game and, despite some poor refereeing decisions, the Red Devils have not been good enough throughout the season.
