Erik ten Hag gives his verdict on Marcus Rashford’s start to the season

Marcus Rashford has certainly not had the start to the season that he would have liked.

The English forward has just one goal so far this season for Manchester United and has, at times, looked rather lost on the pitch and simply out of ideas.

The Englishman has been accused of being selfish throughout this season but he tried to be more selfless but seemed to struggle even more on the pitch.

It was thought the signing of Rasmus Hojlund could help Marcus Rashford and allow him to move to the left but the forward has since struggled since the Dane has started up front.

Erik ten Hag on Rashford’s poor form

Speaking after the game, Erik ten Hag gave his thoughts on Rashford’s start to the season and has set out the challenge for how the winger can improve.

“I think he knows he can do better than he is now and I’m sure it will come,” the Dutchman told United’s website. “He works hard and it will come, but not automatically.

“The team has to work around him, and they have to invest a lot. The decision-making wasn’t good enough and then we don’t score.”

Can Rashford return to the form he showed last season

The last time the English winger featured against Crystal Palace in the league was during the 2-1 win over the South London side last season and Rashford scored the decisive goal.

Yesterday, however, Rashford looked anything but that confident, dynamic forward from last season and may need a confidence boost to get back to his best.

The goal Rashford has scored this season was another wonder goal at the Emirates Stadium but he just seems bereft of confidence.

It was a big statement when United needed a goal, Ten Hag decided to replace the Englishman, who signed a new contract this summer.

The forward has a chance to redeem himself when United take on Galatasaray and are in desperate need of a victory to kick-start their Champions League campaign.
