Erik ten Hag has had his say on whether he thinks Anthony Martial has a future at Manchester United.
The French forward has been at the club for eight years now, following his £36 million transfer from AS Monaco in 2015, which actually rose to £58 million with add-ons. There was already massive pressure on the forward’s shoulders, with that price tag at the time being a very hefty fee for a relatively unproven teenager.
He set the bar extremely high on his debut, with that famous goal in front of the Stretford End against Liverpool and has had some fine moments since during his tenure at Old Trafford, however, injury records and bad runs of form probably mean that overall – he hasn’t really lived up to his price tag.
Now in a new era, there is speculation as to whether Martial should be sold as he isn’t really what is deemed necessary for a striker at Manchester United.

Despite speculation of Martial’s departure, Erik ten Hag has given his verdict and stated that Martial is in his plans or next season.
This confirms that Martial is in ten Hag’s plans past this season, although a lot is dependent on a major factor the Dutchman mentioned.
‘When he is fit’ is the key aspect of this. Martial does have excellent qualities as a forward. He’s very composed in front of goal, has great link-up play and is Premier League proven – however, the undisputed fact is that none of this matters if he’s constantly in the medical room.
Martial is one of the players on a huge wage at United and if his track record states anything, he’ll likely be injured again soon, wasting valuable financial resources that could be used to obtain someone else.
However, we trust in ten Hag to make the right call and it appears from this he does have long-term plans for Martial at Old Trafford.
