Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on why Mason Mount was brought off at half-time during Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The English midfielder returned to the first-team picture following the injury he suffered during the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last month and made a fine impact.
Mason Mount had a hand in the first goal and got the assist for Casemiro’s brilliant header as his wonderful delivery from a corner was headed into the back of the net.
The Englishman looked back to his best and finally highlighted the reason United forked out £55 million for the midfielder from Chelsea.

Mount’s substitution
During half-time of the superb win over Crystal Palace, Mount was brought off and replaced by Victor Lindelof with the Swede coming on in the full-back position and Sofyan Amrabat moving into the midfield.
There were some concerns from the United fanbase that the midfielder being brought off meant that he had suffered an injury, so soon after he returned to the club after his initial setback.
The decision to remove the midfielder during the game at Old Trafford was pre-planned.
Ten Hag told club media: “We made that out before the game,” in reference to Mount’s substitution.
He added: “I think he played very good, as we can expect from Mason Mount.”
Mount’s performance
The midfielder certainly had his most promising game yet for the Red Devils and him, alongside Hannibal Mejbri in the midfield for United provided the bite and energy that the midfield so desperately needed.
The Englishman’s return is certainly a welcome one and the midfielder is surely in line to start this Saturday when United, once again, take on Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace.
Mount may line up on the right-hand side, with Bruno Fernandes, Amrabat and Casemiro completing the midfield three.
He could be the ideal type of player in that role for the Red Devils who are seemingly trying to build a more energetic and press-resistant side.
