Manchester United allowed Eric Bailly to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the start of this month.

After weeks of speculation, Eric Bailly found a new club, signing for Besiktas. The Turkish Super Lig club gave him a fresh start after Manchester United made clear he had reached the end of his tenure.

Well, unfortunately, Eric Bailly’s spell at Besiktas has not got off to the ideal start.

Eric Bailly injured

Eric Bailly has suffered an injury already at Besiktas, after playing in and failing to complete a practice game this week.

Turkish newspaper Milliyet report Eric Bailly could not even complete the first half of a 2-0 friendly win, after feeling pain in a muscle in his leg.

Bailly ‘came to the sideline complaining of pain shortly before the end of the first half,’ it was reported.

Besiktas decided it was not worth the risk to continue playing Bailly, and will consider whether to send him for a MRI scan, but they are hoping he will be able to return to training.

Eric Bailly awful injury record

Besiktas fans may be cursing their luck over an injury to their new signing, but there will not be a single Manchester United supporter who is surprised.

After making 24 league starts for Manchester United in 2016/17, the highest number of league starts he subsequently made in a season was 11.

Last season on loan at Marseille he only made five Ligue 1 starts.

You would hope, for Bailly’s sake, his luck would turn for the better at Besiktas. But it appears to have got off to an unfortunate yet predictable start.
