Edinson Cavani reacts to Manchester United's 4-0 battering at Brighton

Edinson Cavani has publicly stated that he is ‘gutted’ by Manchester United’s results this season following yesterday’s 4-0 hammering at Brighton.

The Red Devils’ season somehow managed to hit a new low with an embarrassing performance at the Amex Stadium.

Following a 3-0 win against Brentford in the last game of the season at Old Trafford, it was hoped that the Reds could finish the season positively.

But Graham Potter’s Seagulls had a field day against Ralf Rangnick’s side, and the defeat meant that the twenty-times league champions would finish the campaign with our lowest point tally since 2013/14 (64).

The four goals we shipped against Brighton also meant that we have conceded the most goals in a Premier League campaign (56), beating the 54 goals we conceded in 2018/19.

Only four top-flight sides have conceded more Premier League goals than United this season.

With United lucky to be only trailing 1-0 at half-time at the Amex, Rangnick made a double change which saw Edinson Cavani come on with Fred for Anthony Elanga and Nemanja Matic.

It was the Uruguayan’s 14th Premier League appearance of the season and the most minutes he had played in a single match since February.

With the Reds already 4-0 down, the 35-year-old was denied his first goal of 2022 by Robert Sanchez who thwarted Cavani’s thumping header.

United’s number 21 did have the ball in the back of the net after tapping home Harry Maguire’s shot, but the former Paris Saint Germain man was offside.

Cavani showed his frustration by smashing the ball into the crowd which led to referee Andrew Madley having a quiet word.

El Matador will be hoping to feature in United’s last game of the season which comes at Crystal Palace in two weeks time and have the opportunity to say goodbye to the travelling United fans.

It’s been a frustrating season for everyone connected to Manchester United and Edinson Cavani showed his dismay with a message on Instagram.

Cavani’s message translates: “Gutted for the results brother.”
