Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been pictured watching Ajax in UEFA Youth League action against Liverpool.

The 25-year-old was watching Ajax’s Under-19s side take on Liverpool this afternoon.

Van de Beek’s former club quickly spotted the Netherlands international and posted on Twitter.

For the second consecutive day, United’s number 34 wasn’t seen pictured training at Carrington ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash.

Like Marcus Rashford, the MEN spotted Van de Beek arriving at Carrington in the morning but like the forward, the former Ajax man wasn’t seen taking part in today’s session.

Having not been part of the matchday squad that lost our opening Europa League game 1-0 to Real Sociedad at Old Trafford on Thursday, it seems that Van de Beek faces a race against time to prove his fitness for the trip to Moldova to face Sheriff Tiraspol.

Van de Beek hasn’t featured in any of United’s last four games having come off the bench in the first three Premier League matches of the season.

Despite his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag taking the reins at the Theatre of Dreams, the Dutchman has not been on the receiving end of any special treatment from his compatriot.

The midfielder has only played 19 minutes of football this season and following the arrivals of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, it’s hard to see how the 19-time Netherlands international can get himself into Ten Hag’s starting line-up.

Since signing for the Red Devils from Ajax for £35m two years ago, Van de Beek, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton, has made 53 appearances for the twenty-time league champions.

With Van de Beek seemingly unable to become a regular at Old Trafford the chances of him forming part of Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands World Cup squad are looking increasingly slim.
