Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has revealed that he never doubted his qualities despite enduring a difficult time at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old joined Everton on loan last month for the remainder of the season in order to get regular game time.

The Dutch international started a league match for the first time, a fortnight ago against Leeds, since when he played for his parent club at Wolves on the last day of last season.

Everton’s number 30 made it back-to-back Premier League starts in the 2-0 defeat against Southampton last weekend.

The former Ajax man looks set to face United’s arch rivals Manchester City this weekend and make it three consecutive Premier League starts for the first time since arriving in England.

Despite not being given a Premier League start whilst at United this season, van de Beek didn’t allow himself to start doubting his qualities.

He instead stayed positive and knew he was going to be given further opportunities to prove he can be a success in England.

Speaking via the club’s website, van de Beek said: “For my motivation every day, I remember where I started.

“I always think about this – and always believe there is another way to go up again.

“I believe in my qualities and know what I do.

“I have all the time do it again and it is up to me to show it.”

When speaking about the reception he received at Goodison Park when making his home debut against Marcelo Bielsa’s side, United’s number 34 thanked the Toffee fans for a “special” welcoming.

Van de Beek added: “That was so special, I didn’t expect it.

“I always try my best and it feels good when you know the supporters are behind you.”

According to the Mirror, Donny van de Beek is hoping to join the Blue half of Merseyside on a permanent basis in the summer.

But any decision on the future of the man Manchester United paid £35m (BBC Sport) for will not likely be made until a permanent manager is appointed.
