Rasmus Hojlund scored his first goal for Manchester United in the defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Great strikers need goals and getting off to a fast start at new clubs is important for strikers. Many Manchester United fans will recall a young Diego Forlan becoming a punchline as he took a staggering 27 games to score his first goal for the club.

His career after United showed what a quality player he was, but that initial wait for his first United strike dented his confidence, and nobody wanted new signing Rasmus Hojlund to have to endure a similar wait.

Fortunately, Hojlund is off the mark already, In just his third game for the club, he is on the scoresheet. Officially this time, netting in a 4-3 loss to Bayern.

Rasmus Hojlund first goal

Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Manchester United goal early in the second half to pull a goal back against Bayern, making the score 2-1.

United eventually lost 4-3, with Bayern just about keeping United’s fightback at arm’s length.

MUTV pundit Dion Dublin was pleased to see Rasmus Hojlund get his goal, and the former striker said the strike will mean a lot to him.

Dublin said, when asked abut the Dane’s performance: “I think he did alright you know, he worked really hard. The goal he scored wasn’t a classic, but those are the type of goals you need as a centre-forward.

“Away at Bayern in the Champions League, even though United lost the game, that will mean a lot to him.

“That confidence scoring for your new club in the Champions League will take him a long way and the players around him will be really happy.”

First of many goals for Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund will now go on the hunt for a Premier League goal this weekend when Manchester United take on Burnley at Turf Moor.

He hit the back of the net against Brighton at the weekend on his first start, but saw it disallowed after Marcus Rashford had taken the ball out of play.

The signs look good that he will be a valuable contributor for MAnchester United this season. If you can score away at Bayern in the Champions League, you can score against anybody.
