He promised that “good days are coming” after the end of a wretched season, and on the small sample size of three pre-season games, better ones certainly are.
Dalot, who has emerged as a part of the leadership group at the club, especially after getting his favourite shirt number, gave a peek into Amorim’s psyche.
After the 4-1 win against Bournemouth showed the best of Amorim’s United, Dalot said the Man Utd manager wants this team to be the best in the world when it comes to intensity.
He said: “We are trying to create something as a group. This dynamic between each other, willing to fight for each other. This message is important.
“On the pitch, we are trying to be the most intense team in the world. You can see we want to win the ball fast. We can improve at getting long possession, more energy to win the ball back. That’s the best way a club like this should work.”
Man Utd’s intensity is already night-and-day from last season
A claim like this would have been laughed out of the room last season when United were routinely getting pummeled by fitter teams in the league.
However, on the basis of the first three games, it is clear to see that Amorim is taking that demand seriously and working on this team accordingly.
Bournemouth are one of the most intense and physical teams in the Premier League, and United would know, since they have been regularly battered by them in the league.
To see them look helpless against United’s running and physicality was a sight to behold, even after adding the caveat of this being a pre-season game.
The step forward United have taken in just over three weeks of pre-season proves that Amorim’s demand is not just a bunch of empty words. United might actually get there one day.
