Manchester United need a new right winger and Jadon Sancho is the ideal option. The problem is, football’s postponement has prompted even the richest clubs to rein in their spending.
According to the Mirror, United have put a big-money move for Sancho on the back-burner until 2021. But that doesn’t mean they should look elsewhere for a cheap alternative.
Alongside Dan James, United have the ideal short-term solution on the wing in the form of Diogo Dalot.
The Portuguese may be better known as a full-back, but his creativity further forward should not be underestimated. Dalot has been blighted by injury this season. Yet he is now fit and ready to fire.
While Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s defensive ability is second to none right now, Dalot’s attacking nous is far superior to his ever-improving teammate. The latter can whip dangerous balls into the box without a second’s thought and he has previously impressed on the wing.
Of course Sancho is a far superior player and he should be United’s number one target whenever they can pull out the proverbial chequebook again. But discounting Dalot would be a mistake.
Still only 21, the £19million signing (BBC) is a quality player who will only improve further if he is given a run in the team. With Wan-Bissaka cleaning up behind him, Dalot could focus on attacking and some fans may be surprised with the results.
James and Dalot could do a fine job before United go all out for Sancho in 2021. Who knows, they may even polish a rough diamond in the process.
