Manchester United star Diogo Dalot and former Red Devils midfielder Scott McTominay both posted heartfelt messages after Portugal’s 2-1 Nations League win over Scotland on Sunday.
Portugal won their opening Nations League match 2-1 against Croatia at the Estadio do Benfica last week ahead of their encounter with Scotland.
Roberto Martinez’s men came from behind to secure their 2-1 victory over Scotland, with Scott McTominay opening the scoring inside 10 minutes on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes cancelled out Scott McTominay’s first-half opener after the break before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner late in the second half.
Scotland’s defeat to Portugal at the Estadio do Benfica in Lisbon is the second consecutive loss for Steve Clarke’s men in their Nations League campaign.
Steve Clarke’s side suffered a 3-2 defeat to Poland in their Group A opener in the Nations League last week at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Dalot’s message after Portugal win
Manchester United teammates Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were both called up for international duty during the September break.
Dalot, who scored in the win over Croatia, and Fernandes both played the full 90 minutes against Scotland in the Nations League win at the Estadio do Benfica.
The 25-year-old United right-back took to social media and dropped an emotionally charged message after Roberto Martinez’s side made it two wins in two in September.
Dalot shared a photo of him celebrating alongside former United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who came off the bench in the second half and replaced Pedro Neto.
“We fought until the end,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you for the support Portuguese [fans].”
McTominay’s message after Scotland defeat
Scott McTominay was reunited with former United teammates Dalot and Fernandes after his exit from Old Trafford in the summer.
The 27-year-old Scottish midfielder completed a stunning move to Serie A side Napoli before the summer transfer window shut.
Speaking after the match, McTominay thanked the Scotland fans for their support and insisted that they must “trust [the] process of improving” after their last two matches.
“We are down but we must trust [the] process of improving like we have shown these last two games,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you to the away fans for the incredible support.”
Fernandes, who turned 30 years old on Sunday, was spotted in the comments of McTominay’s post and posted a cheeky message to the Scotland international.
“I was already missing you, my guy,” he posted, before adding: “But don’t score again at my birthday against me.”
