Luke Shaw rated United’s top player
PFF (Pro Football Focus) has expanded into Premier League coverage, having made it’s name covering US Sports.
The website uses various metrics to gather data and rate players’ performance across the season, and they have compiled a list of the best 50 players in the league based on the 2022/23 season.
While sadly it is Kevin de Bruyne sitting at number one, and no Manchester United player in the top 10, there are three ranking at #13, #15, and #22.
Luke Shaw is at number 13, United’s highest ranked player, Bruno Fernandes at 15 and Marcus Rashford at 22.
Their report noted: “Luke Shaw showed why he is one of the best modern fullbacks this year, with his ability to progress the ball forward and be solid defensively. Shaw completed 150 line-breaking passes, the fourth-highest amongst full-backs.”
Aside from one or two poor games, Luke Shaw had a really strong season, rising to the challenge for his place posed by new signing Tyrell Malacia.
Most impressively too, he filled in at centre-back on several occasions, in some high profile games too, away at Barcelona and at home to City.
Whether you believe Shaw has been United’s top player this season or not, it’s nice to see him getting some recognition.
