Declan Rice once claimed Man Utd ace is ‘one of the best’ he’s played with, his true best is yet to come

Manchester United have a vast amount of untapped potential, and Declan Rice’s comment about one player in the current squad hammers home that point.

Ruben Amorim has re-tooled his Man Utd squad this summer to the tune of more than £200m, but the actual improvement was always going to come from within.

The squad, even without the summer signings, had no business being as bad as it was last season, since it consisted of some players who are highly rated in world football.

One only needs to look at Declan Rice’s comment about a current Utd star made about two years ago on how he’s one of the best he’s played with.

Mason Mount has had an unfortunate time at Old Trafford due to injury worries, but it says a lot about his talent and application that he’s become an instant favourite of every manager he’s played under.

From winning the Champions League for Chelsea to struggling at United due to injuries, Mount’s career has come a long way, but talent doesn’t disappear overnight.

Rice, speaking to Sky Sports, once said how Mount is one of the best he’s ever played with, which is high praise considering Rice has played with many top players.

Rice said: “[Mount] doesn’t fit the agenda of what people want an attacking midfielder to look like in this day and age. He’s one of the best players I’ve played [with or against]. I’m not saying that because he’s my best mate, but if you see the way he helps the team.

“The way he is off the ball, you don’t see many No. 10s have that. He’s such a hard-working, honest guy. For the rest of his career, he can go on and be whatever he wants to be.”

Ruben Amorim has full faith

Amorim is clearly in full agreement with Rice’s comments from back in 2022 because he made it his mission to involve and trust Mount from the moment he arrived.

It’s not up for debate that Man Utd fans have not seen the best of Mount, but that is largely due to factors outside his control.

Every time he has played, he has shown glimpses of the quality that made him a superstar at Chelsea, which is something United would want to see more of.

Amorim has been extremely cautious with his management to minimise injuries, and that will hopefully bear fruit, because the best of Mount easily walks into most elite teams in world football.
