Diogo Dalot is celebrating being a Manchester United player for exactly one year.
It was on June 6 2018 when the Portuguese full-back joined United from FC Porto.
He celebrated this by posting a message to both his Instagram and Twitter pages, to mark 12 months as a United player.
Dalot referred to United as the ‘biggest club in the world’… and his message was ‘liked’ by two significant names.
Benfica star Ruben Dias and Matthijs De Ligt both acknowledged Dalot’s message.
Dias is a Portuguese colleague of Dalot but the pair have had no affiliation at club level.
He has a £52 million release clause, with The Sun reporting United’s interest in the Benfica ace.
De Ligt is of major significance to United too. The Telegraph reported last month that the Dutchman is considering a move to Old Trafford, and rumours have spiralled since.
What does it mean?
Dias and De Ligt’s messages mean precisely what they intend, that they have respect for Dalot and the arc of his career so far.
Beyond that, it shows they have respect for United as a club too.
It’s hard to dress it up and say it’s a hint either are getting set to play for United next season, but if that is the route they choose, then it will all fall into place.
United won’t be able to sign both Dias and De Ligt, with the Portuguese a cheaper option than the Ajax star.
