Former Manchester United CEO David Gill has been speaking with Rio Ferdinand and has admitted his one big regret from 2008.
With Ineos nearing completion of their arrival as the new sporting leaders at Manchester United, one face which has reemerged within United is David Gill.
The former CEO has been seen sitting with Sir Dave Brailsford and Jean Claude Blanc in the stands as it seems the club are keen to court his advice.
The 66-year-old oversaw the last successful period of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign and his advice will be invaluable to the new structure at the club.
But he didn’t get it all right, and now he’s admitted his regrets over one specific moment following the aftermath of United’s double-winning season in 2008.

David Gill agrees with Rio Ferdinand over big 2008 regret
Gill has been speaking with Rio Ferdinand on his FIVE YouTube channel about a range of things from Ineos to his time at the club.
Ferdinand brought up the 2008 double-winning season and expressed his annoyance over the fact United didn’t have a bus parade following such a successful season.
On this, Gill took Ferdinand’s side.
“I agree. But I think they’re much more organised now Manchester, you know, perhaps at the time we were difficult, we should we should have done it. I agree.”
The thought of such an achievement not being celebrated with the city is still a surprising one although if United ever achieve this again, expect a massive celebration.
Manchester United finally have a structure to match 2008
When Gill left Old Trafford along with Sir Alex in 2013, United’s footballing structure took a serious hit.
Ed Woodward was a massive downgrade and Richard Arnold has been no better recently.
That’s all changing though with the arrival of Ineos and most impressively Omar Berrada.
This finally gives United the structure that fans have been waiting on for years and finally could have the staff to become a real force once more in football.
