Manchester United players’ apology posts are now a running joke after regular defeats, although nobody is laughing.

David de Gea is always up front and honest, and did not attempt to sugar coat the team’s situation.

United lost 3-1 to Arsenal after an action packed and incident filled game.

Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty at 2-1, and there were other penalty shouts, while there were also some suspect offside calls for Arsenal’s third, and one Ronaldo had ruled out.

De Gea said United could have got more from the game, but accepts, ultimately across the season, the team deserve to be where they are.

The top four hopes are gone, and honestly they have been for a while now, but this loss makes it near mathematically impossible.

De Gea did what he could for the first goal conceded, after shambolic defending from Raphael Varane and Alex Telles.

Arsenal then scored a penalty, before his view was obscured for Arsenal’s third.

De Gea is clearly sick of the players in front of him, and United just need this season to end.

The goalkeeper had said before the game that Erik ten Hag’s appointment had given the dressing room a boost, but it wasn’t evident in this loss and the defeat will have brought them crashing down to reality.
