David de Gea has taken to Instagram to send a message to his former teammate – Lisandro Martinez.

News broke recently from The Athletic reporting Martinez is set to undergo surgery to ‘cure the problem once and for all’ from his injury picked up last season.

This could rule him out for the remainder of 2023, with an estimated three months out. Terrible news for Manchester United fans with Licha definitely being one one of their star performers.

The news has come as a shock to players, with Martinez seemingly looking well after making a return. Messages have been starting to flood in for the Argentine with news of surgery imminent.

David de Gea sends message to Lisandro Martinez

Taking to Instagram, Martinez’s former teammate David de Gea posted a picture of the pair, with a heartfelt three-word message for The Butcher.

“Stay strong warrior,” the post reads.

De Gea and Martinez played the entirety of last season together at the club, in what was Licha’s first campaign with the Red Devils.

Sadly, De Gea was let go this summer, but his affiliation with the club and the players still remains strong – as this post suggests.

How will United fare without Martinez?

Erik ten Hag has yet another headache in regard to injuries following the announcement of Martinez’s surgery.

Luckily, Raphael Varane is back in the frame now – but with his track record, it really is only a matter of time till the Frenchman is sidelined once again.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof are also available, but who will be going forward to partner the veteran centre-half is unknown.

And if all else fails… there’s always Jonny Evans!
