Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea was pictured in training on Thursday in preparation for the upcoming Real Betis fixture.

De Gea was not even on the bench for Manchester United’s friendly fixture with Cadiz on Wednesday night, watching the game from the stands.

But any fears over a possible injury have been quashed after the goalkeeper was pictured training with the rest of the team, less than 24 hours later.

The 32-year-old is part of the squad preparing for Saturday’s fixture against Real Betis.

David de Gea trained with the rest of the squad, pictured sharing a joke with stand-in stopper Martin Dubravka.

Dubravka played all 90 minutes against Cadiz, with manager Erik ten Hag stating before the game he wanted to get another look at the Slovakia international.

Ten Hag told MEN: “It’s a good opportunity for him to get minutes in the legs to show what he’s capable of.”

Dubravka did not have a good game, however, conceding four goals, and looked unconvincing attempting to claim a cross in the second half.

It was only his second appearance all season, but it was hardly a display to inspire confidence, and it is likely David de Gea gets minutes in against Real Betis.

Erik ten Hag will then have a decision to make for the fixture against Burnley in the Carabao Cup on December 21.

Typically, this is a competition where United have used back-up goalkeepers, including the selection of Dubravka in the previous round against Aston Villa.

However, his performance against Cadiz may have given Ten Hag reason to reconsider for the upcoming Burnley game, and De Gea will be keen to return to action.

The veteran will also be buoyed by news Luis Enrique has stepped down as Spain boss after their World Cup elimination, which could give him an international lifeline in 2023 and beyond.
