David de Gea leads tributes to Alejandro Garnacho after winning Manchester United POTM for November

Alejandro Garnacho has won Manchester United’s Player of the Month award for November.

It is of course a shortened month for United because it has been interrupted by the World Cup.

Garnacho still has a chance of going to the tournament with an Argentina side who are struggling with injuries in forward areas.

He could hardly have done more to impress Lionel Scaloni in recent weeks, scoring the winner in games against Real Sociedad and Fulham.

He also changed the face of the EFL Cup clash against Aston Villa this month, coming off the bench and providing Scott McTominay’s goal.

Garnacho took to Instagram to celebrate the win, posting a message which made it clear he knows there is still more hard work to be done.

Garnacho actually beat Casemiro and David de Gea in the fan vote to win the award and both players were in the replies congratulating him.

So was club captain Harry Maguire, who has been named in England’s World Cup squad despite struggling for form and fitness this season.

If Garnacho did get a late call-up to the World Cup and shone, it would take his star to a whole new level and he would have the world at his feet.

Perhaps this tournament has just come too soon for him, and there is an argument he would be better served steadily continuing his development at United rather than exploding onto the world stage even more.

Either way, he is doing well for United right now, adding pace and directness to the frontline which has been lacking at times this season.

He deserves the praise coming his way and he needs to keep the hard work going to keep on earning his place in United’s first team.
