Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann has explained he has no regrets at missing out on a move to Manchester United.

Bachmann was linked with a cut-price move to Manchester United in the summer, with the club looking for a back-up goalkeeper to David de Gea.

Fabrizio Romano reported in June that United were considering a move for the Championship goalkeeper.

Now, speaking to newspaper Heute, he says he is content with life at Watford, where he is playing regular first team football.

Bachmann says he has no regrets

Daniel Bachmann says he has no regrets about staying at Watford, stating that he has the full confidence of current Hornets boss Slaven Bilic.

He emphasised how close the United move came, without getting into detail about the reason for the switch breaking down.

Bachmann, 28, said: “It was very, very, very close. Really very, very close.

“In the end, I’m glad things turned out the way they are. The new coach really wanted to keep me.

“I’m happy, I’m a top performer at Watford now.”

The Mail reported in the summer that Manchester United walked away from a deal as they were unable to agree a fee with Watford.

United ended up signing Martin Dubravka on a season long loan deal. He has played just one competitive game for the Red Devils.

Bachmann has made 22 starts for Watford, who sit in fifth place in the Championship.

At international level he is working under former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick
