Dan Ashworth is now lining up a move to lure Chelsea analyst Kyle Macaulay to Manchester United if he leaves Newcastle United.

United are looking to land a sporting director with Ineos putting their plans in place at Old Trafford.

A host of names have been linked in recent months but United have clearly made Dan Ashworth the top target.

The Newcastle United sporting director is now widely expected to make a move to United and is keen on joining the Ineos revolution.

We have even seen reports surrounding Ashworth’s early plans with Brighton and Hove Albion scout Sam Jewell thought to be a target.

There is now another name in the mix as The Sun report that Ashworth wants to take Chelsea’s Kyle Macaulay to Old Trafford.

It’s stated that ‘United will come calling for him shortly’ with Ashworth lining up Macaulay as a key appointment.

Ashworth will certainly have some pulling power if he takes the reins at United and raiding Chelsea could be on the horizon.

Macaulay would be another exciting move for United after landing CEO Omar Berrada and then moving for Ashworth and even Southampton director of football Jason Wilcox.

Who is Kyle Macaulay?

Macaulay started his playing career in the Derby County ranks despite being born in Scotland.

Spells with Aberdeen, Peterhead, Alloa Athletic, Elgin City and Huntly followed before Macaulay moved away from playing at the age of just 26.

Macaulay joined Ostersund as a performance analyst under Graham Potter before following him to Swansea City.

Macaulay and Potter then linked up with a third club as they joined Brighton and Hove Albion, which is where Ashworth met Macaulay.

The 37-year-old has held scouting positions but now serves as Chelsea’s chief analyst having – again – followed Potter in 2022.

Macaulay has remained in the Chelsea setup despite Potter’s exit and it’s now clear that Ashworth rates his work highly.

Potter no longer being at Chelsea may just tempt Macaulay away and Ashworth will hope to add him to aid United’s recruitment setup moving forward.
