Cristiano Ronaldo continues to express a desire to leave Manchester United, with no resolution yet in sight over his future.
The Athletic report Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is holding talks with Portuguese club Sporting, and is trying to work out a way to finance the deal.
Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is said to have reservations over a potential move, and any deal is at an early exploratory stage.
Ronaldo was not pictured in training, although he did reach out to a Manchester United teammate on social media.

Cristiano Ronaldo sends message to Diogo Dalot
Ronaldo has never been shy about anything, and even with all the speculation over his future, he isn’t shy about supporting his closest teamamate.
The number 7 has struck up a friendship with United right-back Diogo Dalot, who reveres him as an idol.
Dalot posted a Ronaldo-like video montage on Instagram lifting weights and working hard behind the scenes, trying to give himself an extra edge ahead of the season.
Ronaldo responded to Dalot’s message on Instagram with a one word reply which read ‘Piteusinho’.
This loosely translates as ‘little Pitbull’, with the message meant as a compliment to Dalot’s hard work and attitude.
Whether Ronaldo stays or goes, his friendship and respect with Dalot will endure. If he does end up reluctantly staying put, then his strong relationship with the right-back will be key in getting him reintegrated into the dressing room.
Ronaldo wants the best, and fans understand that. Whether he has gone about it in the right, or sensible way, is another matter.
