Cristiano Ronaldo ‘rolled his eyes’ whenever former Man United teammate spoke in dressing room – the disrespect was next-level

It’s hard being a Manchester United fan — one minute you’re celebrating winning the FA Cup, and the next, you’re winless in the last six. Being a Red Devil really is a rollercoaster of emotions and one player knows that better than most.

United haven’t had many things to shout about in recent years but winning the FA Cup under Erik Ten Hag was one of them.

Overall though, the Dutchman’s two years at Old Trafford were a disappointment. Inconsistent performances and several flop signings, including £86 million Antony, now wanted by Real Betis, forced the United owners’ hand.

One thing Ten Hag was praised for though was his part in forcing Cristiano Ronaldo out. Although Ronaldo’s second Manchester United departure still divides the fanbase, many believe offloading the global megastar to Al-Nassr was one of Ten Hag’s smartest decisions.

And although we’ll never know how things would’ve worked out if the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had stayed at Old Trafford for longer than he did, one player will definitely be glad he’s gone.

Cristiano Ronaldo disrespected Man United teammate in dressing room

Ronaldo’s massive ego is no secret.

The former Real Madrid Galactico is arrogant and believes he is the greatest to ever play the game. He may be right too, but football is a team game and you’re only ever as strong as your weakest player, which is why learning about Ronaldo’s treatment of one former teammate will certainly raise eyebrows.

Frustrated by the United first-team’s lack of results and poor performances, CR7 went public with the club’s declining standards. Ronaldo’s untimely interview with Piers Morgan ultimately led to his exit, but in a fascinating reveal, fans quickly learned just how annoyed their iconic number seven had become by some figures at the club.

According to a report from the Telegraph, defender, and then-United captain, Harry Maguire, was a particular source of annoyance for Ronaldo.

Whenever Maguire spoke to teammates in the dressing room, Ronaldo would apparently ‘roll his eyes’ — a blatant show of disrespect toward a player he obviously felt wasn’t worthy of a place in the same side as him.

Maguire deserves praise for unlikely revival

Despite struggling for much of his four-and-a-half years at United, Maguire has remained the ultimate professional.

Often the butt of fans’ jokes online, the former Leicester City centre-back, who was, at one point, odds-on to leave Old Trafford, has done remarkably well to ignore critics and focus on improving himself.

Speaking to the club’s magazine recently about his contributions, Maguire said: “Yeah, I’m really enjoying it. Over 600 games, that’s a lot, to be honest! I look after myself on and off the pitch. I try and do everything right.”

Even though United’s number five will never be able to match the legendary status of the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand, he has been a wonderful servant, and, during some seasons, particularly ones during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign, was United’s most played player.

Maguire’s performances this term, including United’s FA Cup Third Round penalty shootout win over Arsenal last weekend, have seen the 31-year-old enjoy a huge upturn in form, and that’s testament to his grit and determination.

While there are no guarantees Maguire will remain a Red Devil beyond this season, one thing is for sure, following displays like his most recent, he will be expected to play a key role for Ruben Amorim throughout the second half of the campaign — and that kind of revival is something not many would’ve predicted, Ronaldo included.
