Cristiano Ronaldo pictured showing respect for Pau Torres after Portugal v Spain clash
Cristiano Ronaldo had to settle for a place on the bench for Portugal’s UEFA Nations League clash away with Spain last night.
When he did get on, he had to try and get past Spain’s towering centre-back Pau Torres.
Despite scoring twice for Manchester United against Torres’ Villarreal last season, Ronaldo was not in luck last night.
Portugal needed a goal from Braga winger Ricardo Horta to cancel out Alvaro Morata’s early strike to claim a 1-1 draw.

Ronaldo came on for the final 28 minutes of the clash, and was pictured at the final whistle showing respect for Torres.
The Spain centre-back has been linked with a transfer move to Manchester United, by Spanish newspaper AS, after Villarreal only qualified for the Europa Conference League next season.
Torres could cost United as much as his £51 million release clause, or a little less – but Jurrien Timber appears to be the club’s top centre-back target at present, with The Guardian reporting initial talks have been opened. As Timber can also play at right-back, it’s possible both he and Torres are signed.
Fixing the midfield should be United’s top priority, amid departures for Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
Torres completed 92 per cent of his passes in last night’s clash, making three clearances and one interception, winning two aerial duels.
Ronaldo saw little of the ball, managing only 11 touches, and was unable to get a single shot at goal during his second half cameo.
If Torres is a teammate of Ronaldo at Manchester United next season, it’s likely the Spaniard will have the superstar forward’s approval.
