Cristiano Ronaldo is coming under fire for his behaviour at Al Nassr after a succession of failings.
Manchester United take on Tottenham tonight, having grown closer together since the last time the two teams squared off.
The match against Old Trafford against Tottenham was a dominant performance from United, which didn’t get the credit it deserved. This was because unused substitute Cristiano Ronaldo stole all the headlines by storming down the tunnel before full-time.
Ronaldo was subsequently suspended from first team activities by Erik ten Hag, and this sparked the beginning of the end. The manager had expected the experienced star to set a good example, not a bad one.
He left the club before the World Cup, and Manchester United are better off without him – even if the club are yet to sign a replacement.
Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, and the honeymoon stage barely lasted at all. It has been really tough for the 38-year-old despite a strong goal record.
Cristiano Ronaldo criticised
Al Nassr are second in the league and have been eliminated from two cup competitions. He was recently overshadowed by Odion Ighalo in a recent head to head clash, while his manager also got fired.
The defeat in the King Cup of Champions prompted a furious outburst from a clearly frustrated Cristian Ronaldo at full-time.
Ronaldo clearly does not look happy, and he has been criticised by pundit and former PSG footballer Christoph Jallet, who spoke to broadcaster Canal Plus.
In comments reported by TMW, Jallet said: “His behavior is unacceptable and damages his reputation. He has become the object of hatred, it’s not nice to see certain reactions.
“He is a sports legend and now he is ruining everything. I would have preferred to see him again at Sporting, I don’t understand why he made this choice.”
Ronaldo clearly does not look happy, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him call time on his spell in Saudi Arabia as soon as this summer.
It all comes down to his mentality. He could have been part of this Manchester United squad still, if he could have put all the histrionics aside and been the team player Erik ten Hag wanted him to.
Storming down the tunnel against Tottenham has sparked a downward spiral for him. He seems to be continuing the same pattern of behaviour.
