Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker both felt strongly about one thing that Ruben Amorim did at Manchester United ahead of the start of the September international break.
Ruben Amorim alleviated some of the pressure that was placed on his shoulders after a bumpy start to the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford with Manchester United.
United are currently ninth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils secured their first win of the season on the weekend before the international break.
The Red Devils finally clinched three Premier League points at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon after Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Burnley.
United were awarded a penalty against Burnley in the dying stages of the match and Bruno Fernandes stepped up and successfully converted the winner for the Red Devils.
United manager Amorim has a tough task ahead of him after the September break, with the Red Devils facing Manchester City and Chelsea in their next two matches.

Gary Lineker drops huge rant to Alan Shearer on one huge Ruben Amorim detail at Man Utd in the 2025-26 season
All eyes were on Ruben Amorim going into Saturday’s Premier League clash after Grimsby Town’s stunning upset over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.
Grimsby Town defeated United 12-11 in a thrilling penalty shootout at Blundell Park in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
Gary Lineker told Premier League legend Alan Shearer that he was far from impressed with Amorim sitting in the dugout and not watching the penalty shootout.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, he said: “And I mean, United got beat.
“And what struck me in that and I’ve been, I don’t think I’ve been particularly critical of Amorim because I think it’s a difficult job because I think the club’s in a bit of a pickle and it generally filters down from the top, as we’ve said many times and I think he’s probably a very good coach.
“He’s probably come into a situation, which he didn’t realise before he took the job.
“But, and I have to say this, but if you’re the manager and coach of a side and you hide in the dugout and [are] not be prepared to watch your own players, some of them very young players, take penalties, I honestly… I mean, come on.
“This is the, what, was it the second, third round of the Carabao Cup for crying out loud? Do me a favour.
“That’s not leadership. That leadership is, you know, you’ve got to stand up and be there for your players. That’s really important.”
Alan Shearer’s reaction to Gary Lineker’s issue with Ruben Amorim during Man Utd’s defeat to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup
Shearer called Amorim not watching the penalties a “terrible look” amid Lineker’s scathing assessment and the former Newcastle striker also made his feelings clear.
The 55-year-old pundit admitted that he could see the argument that fellow The Rest Is Football co-host Lineker was making and labelled it as an “awful look.”
“Couldn’t agree more,” Shearer responded.
“I thought that was a terrible look. Him cowing away in the dugout, leaving some young players, some players that are making [their] first starts.
“Just, yeah, I didn’t like [it], very [much] like everyone else. I thought it was an awful look for a manager to sit there hiding.”
United will play their first Manchester derby of the 2025-26 season after the break, with Manchester City hosting the Red Devils at the Etihad on 14th September.
