With UEFA scrapping the away goals rule in European competitions, the Reds will be hoping to take a lead to Old Trafford, ahead of the second leg in three weeks time.

Just like United, Los Rojiblancos have struggled domestically this campaign and they currently sit outside of the Champions League spots in La Liga.

Cristiano Ronaldo will renew his rivalry with the Spanish giants. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 25 goals and registered nine assists from 34 matches against Atletico.

The 37-year-old has scored more goals against the Madrid-based side than any other team during his illustrious career.

Fellow former Real Madrid man Raphael Varane will also return to a hostile Wanda Metropolitano and David de Gea will face his former club for the first time since leaving 11 years ago.

Jadon Sancho scored his first Manchester United goal in Spain against Villareal, and the England international scored his first Champions League goal against Atletico when playing for Borussia Dortmund.
