Harry Maguire made claims earlier this week over his win percentage, in response a pundit has slammed his comment as ‘complete nonsense’.
Manchester United‘s former captain has long been a subject of controversy, dividing the fanbase.
A bit-part player under Erik ten Hag, Harry Maguire remains in the England set-up where he has been speaking with media.
Here he suggested he could consider a move away from Old Trafford if his play-time doesn’t improve, before making a bold claim on his win percentage.
His statement didn’t go down well with former Liverpool player Steve Nicol who slammed Maguire for claiming his ‘win percentage is ridiculously high‘.
Pundit slams Harry Maguire for his comments
Speaking on ESPN FC’s YouTube, Nicol gave his verdict on Maguire’s comments.
“What we just saw there is complete nonsense. That’s why we complain about stats. So because they win the game, you’ve been poor but they win the game that doesn’t mean you’re doing ok.
“Raya had a cleansheet against Man City, did he play well? No. Not one person said he played well. But on the stats, hallelujah he played great,” the ex-Liverpool man said.
“Maguire, he’s in the same boat. Did he forget he scored an own goal against Scotland? But they won the game, that doesn’t count. He’s talking nonsense. Everytime he’s stepped on the field recently he’s made a mistake.”
A permanent departure seems best
Maguire at one stage during the summer looked on the verge of leaving. With West Ham being the side most interested.
However, that deal failed to materialise for whatever reason which leaves him in a difficult position, despite his improved performances.
Ten Hag clearly doesn’t want the Englishman in his team, as when everyone is fit, Maguire is fourth or fifth choice.
Adding to this, early transfer rumours suggest a centre-back is Manchester United’s priority position to fill next. End of the line.
