Nottingham Forest considering options as Dean Henderson ruled out for a month

Nottingham Forest are reportedly considering signing another goalkeeper this month with Dean Henderson set to miss at least a month due to suffering a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old, who is spending the 2022-23 campaign on loan at the City Ground from Manchester United, suffered the muscle injury against Leicester City when taking a goal kick.

The one-time England international sustained the injury in the dying stages of Forest’s 2-0 win against the Foxes on Saturday.

Henderson finished the match, but his discomfort was clear to see and Steve Cooper’s side now face a run of games without one of their key players.

With Wayne Hennessey set to come into the side for Henderson, the Mail reports that Forest are now looking to sign another goalkeeper before the January transfer window closes to compensate for the loss of Henderson.

Henderson has started 18 of Forest’s 19 Premier League games this season and has six clean sheets to his name.

Only Ederson (7), Aaron Ramsdale (8), David de Gea (8) and Nick Pope (10) have registered more clean sheets than Henderson in the top-flight so far this season.

The only game that Hennessey deputised in for the Manchester United Academy graduate was last month’s 3-0 defeat to Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils which Henderson was ineligible to play in.

While his injury would have ruled him out of the two-legged semi-final anyway, Henderson wouldn’t have been able to feature against his parent club in the Carabao Cup semi-finals due to the decision lying with the twenty-time league champions.

The timing of Henderson’s injury could also have an impact on his chances of earning an England recall for the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 qualifiers in March.
