Manchester United have officially lost coach Eric Ramsay after he was confirmed as the new manager of Minnesota United.

We have seen a number of United coaches go on to become managers of late.

Michael Carrick has been doing a fine job at Middlesbrough whilst Kieran McKenna is working wonders with Ipswich Town.

United fended off interest from Ajax in Mitchell van der Gaag earlier this season but have now lost Eric Ramsay.

Eric Ramsay to Minnesota United

Ramsay has now completed a move to Major League Soccer having been appointed as the new manager of Minnesota United.

The 32-year-old joined United’s coaching staff in 2021, arriving from Chelsea’s Under-23’s having been recommended to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after studying with the aforementioned McKenna.

The Welshman has attracted interest from Blackpool and Swansea City in recent times but has now decided that Minnesota United is the job for him.

Ramsay now heads to the United States and joins of the newer MLS sides as their first campaign only came in 2017.

They now hope that Ramsay can take the club forward and they certainly seem excited about the move.

Minnesota United’s Chief Soccer Officer Khaled El-Ahmad has now given his verdict on Ramsay having announced the move overnight.

El-Ahmad feels that Ramsay is the ‘best choice, highlighting his work with top players and his ability to speak multiple languages, believing that he can shine in his first managerial job.

“After an extensive search that included dozens of impressive domestic and international candidates, we are confident that Eric Ramsay is the best choice to lead our club,” said El-Ahmad. “His experience working with top-level players, coaches, and sporting staff at both the club and international level – as well as his alignment in playing style and development philosophy – all fit with the vision we have for the future of MNUFC.”

“Beyond his soccer pedigree, he is a genuine person who is aligned with the values and culture at the club. He speaks several languages, has experience in managing a multicultural locker room at the highest level, and he understands the importance of community engagement and the value of a passionate fanbase. He fits everything that MNUFC is about, and we are looking forward to welcoming Eric to Minnesota United FC,” he added.

Ramsay was described as United’s secret weapon

Any time a coach leaves in the middle of the season, it serves as a blow.

Erik ten Hag won’t love that Ramsay has left the club right now and he has previously been hailed for his work at Old Trafford.

The Daily Mail claimed last summer that Ramsay was considered to be United’s ‘secret weapon’ in football circles.

United rated Ramsay highly and convinced him to reject Blackpool last season, informing him of his importance to Ten Hag’s setup.

After originally arriving as a set-piece coach, Ramsay has taken on a bigger role in recent times and has been a key coach in training sessions.

Ramsay now moves on and United will be tracking his progress with Minnesota United carefully, with the door for an Old Trafford return surely open down the line.
