Christian Eriksen has spoken about how the Old Trafford atmosphere has made players ‘scared to play’ during a recent interview.
To the delight of the fans, the Danish playmaker returned from a long-term injury as he was substituted on in the second half of the 2-0 win against Everton in the Premier League last weekend.
Eriksen has quickly become one of Erik ten Hag‘s first names on the team sheet since he joined from Brentford on a free in the summer. He was sorely missed in his absence, but it’s great to see he’s back for some vital games as United push on towards the end of the season.
His time at United although short has been a pleasurable one and he was recently interviewed and discussed the Old Trafford atmosphere as a new player.
Eriksen describes Old Trafford atmosphere as ‘intense’
Speaking on a podcast with United’s media, Eriksen was asked about what it was like to play at Old Trafford, this time in red and white.
“The vibe in the stadium as an away player was intense but not really scary,” Eriksen said about his previous visits to Old Trafford when he was on the opposition side.
“Then coming here and playing every game, I do get why some people – especially now and how it’s going – are scared to play because of the crowd. They are good people, good fans. It’s a wonderful stadium and big enough I think.
“It was weird [walking out of the tunnel as a United player for the first time]. The same as when you walk into the stadium, walking to the right instead of the left [to get to the] changing rooms and stuff. So that was a bit of a different feeling compared to being here the last few times but no, it was special.”
It seems Eriksen has fallen in love with the Theatre of Dreams, which is reciprocated by the love the Old Trafford faithful have for the fabulous number 14.
In the last 24 home games, United have won 21, and drawn three. The fear factor at Fortress Old Trafford looks to be back.
