Christian Eriksen produces another sublime performance and there’s more to come

Christian Eriksen provided the assist for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford to score the winner against West Ham.

Eriksen’s cross for the winner was delicious, an inviting curled pass which just begged for a forward to attack it – and Rashford obliged.

The Dane’s pass was his fifth assist of the season, two more than any other Manchester United player.

Eriksen is surpassing expectations at United so far this season, a regular in Erik ten Hag’s team selection. The win over West Ham was another match where he delivered a game-changing display.

He created three goalscoring chances, compared to just one from teammate Bruno Fernandes, and completed more passes (59) than any player on the pitch.

Eriksen touched the ball 84 times during his 79 minutes on the pitch, making 11 ball recoveries – three more than Casemiro.

There was an anxious wait back in the summer while United waited on Eriksen to accept the club’s offer. Each passing game we are more and more thankful he did.

Who replaces Fernandes

There could be a potential change of role for Christian Eriksen in Manchester United’s next Premier League game, due to Bruno Fernandes’ suspension after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season.

This poses a conundrum for United, on how to replace Fernandes in next weekend’s game with Aston Villa.

Candidates include Fred in a forward role, or giving Donny van de Beek a chance.

Both players could be brought into the XI, while shifting Christian Eriksen into a more forward role usually occupied by Bruno Fernandes.

This could be an ideal solution. Eriksen has performed this role frequently in his career for club and country, and it would be a good opportunity to see what he is capable of in a more attacking position.

Eriksen’s form is already terrific – but with a small tactical tweak next weekend it could get even better.
