Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has his best years ahead of him, according to Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand.

The 30-year-old has been a revelation since returning to football after suffering a cardiac arrest at last summer’s European Championship.

The Danish playmaker is arguably in the form of his life having made his return to professional football in January.

After spending time training with former club Ajax, who were managed by United boss Erik ten Hag at the time, Eriksen signed for Brentford at the end of January.

From ten starts for the Bees, Eriksen scored one goal and provided four assists, and his arrival proved the catalyst in Thomas Frank’s side beating the drop in their maiden campaign in the Premier League.

With his short-term deal at the Brentford Community Stadium expiring at the end of June, Eriksen signed a three-year deal with the Red Devils over re-signing with the Londoners.

Eriksen has started every game for United since being signed by Ten Hag, and he has two assists from eight appearances.

With Eriksen’s importance and influence in the United side becoming ever clearer, Denmark’s number ten continued his fine form during the international break.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan man scored a stunning goal in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia and created eight chances in Denmark’s 2-0 win against world champions France.

Despite being in scintillating form, Hjulmand has made the bold prediction that United’s number 14, who was crowned the Red Devils’ September player of the month, actually has his best years ahead of him.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, Hjulmand said: “Christian’s age doesn’t matter. I am convinced that Christian has the best football years of his career ahead of him.

“That man can’t get stressed on a football field. He is so calm, so smart and plays with such energy. It is really a pleasure to experience.

“Christian plays the way Christian does. He shows what he is – a world-class player.

“He doesn’t just have the X-factor every team needs. He also does a huge amount of running and is involved in all phases of the game. No one can doubt that he is an incredibly important player for us.”

Hjulmand’s comments will be music to the ears of Manchester United fans and having signed Eriksen on a free transfer, the Scandinavian midfield maestro could go down as one of the best bargain buys in football, if his best years are ahead like Hjulmand predicts.
