Christian Eriksen and Hannibal Mejbri knocked out of World Cup

Manchester United star Christian Eriksen has been eliminated from the World Cup.

Denmark were beaten by Australia, meaning they finished bottom of their group, with just a solitary point.

There had been high hopes for the Danes, semi-finalists at Euro 2020, who recently beat France in the UEFA Nations League.

They were defeated by Les Bleus on their way to World Cup elimination, ahead of their 1-0 loss to Australia today.

Eriksen could face Nottingham Forest

Manchester United’s next Premier League game is against Nottingham Forest on December 27.

With the World Cup final just a week earlier, any Manchester United players who make it this far are unlikely to jump straight back into domestic action.

Eriksen on the other hand should be rested up in time for the league game against Forest at Old Trafford.

This is a major boost for manager Erik ten Hag. Eriksen could line up in central midfield along with Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek, who are both not at the World Cup.

It is unclear if Eriksen could be considered for the Carabao Cup tie against Burnley on December 21, or the friendlies in Spain against Cadiz and Real Betis.

This will depend on how much time off he is granted. But either way, he is expected to be available for the Premier League fixture against Forest.

Hannibal Mejbri also eliminated

Manchester United loanee Hannibal Mejbri is also out, with Tunisia eliminated despite their win over an under-strength France.

He is expected to link straight back up with Birmingham City for the resumption of their season later in December, unless Erik ten Hag wants to take a closer look at his progress.
