Mason Mount has moved from Chelsea to Manchester United and has left a big hole behind him at Stamford Bridge.

We can’t speak for Chelsea, but losing an academy graduate who is a first team regular is never an easy one to deal with.

Imagine Manchester United losing Marcus Rashford. Mason Mount was the first star to break through at Chelsea in years, and played a part in them winning the Champions League.

Just like that, it’s all unraveled, and while fans are understandably a little bitter at his exit, there is huge respect among his Chelsea colleagues.

Reaction to Mason Mount exit

Manchester United announced the move for Mason Mount and later revealed him as the club’s new number seven.

While Manchester United fans reacted to this news, with a mix of intrigue and surprise, Mount left behind a Chelsea squad still digesting his exit.

Defender Ben Chilwell posted a message on Instagram, expressing that he has now lost a big reason he wanted to join the Blues in the first place.

He wrote: “A sad day for us all at Chels, this guy was a big reason i wanted to join the club and im so glad i did. We have had the best memories together and im so glad we got to share the pitch together. I wish you the best of luck in your next chapter. Love you brother.”

There was a lengthy message from Reece James, who broke into the Chelsea team soon after Mount, with the pair coming through the academy together.

He wrote that he is sad to see Mount leave, and wishes him the best for the future.

Mount won’t feel lost at United, reuniting with his England colleague Luke Shaw. He leaves behind a club reeling from a season of disarray, with Chelsea finishing in 12th place.

Manchester United have offered Mount an instant way back into the Champions League, and a club with a manager who has total faith in him.

He might have found Mauricio Pochettino was ready to place in faith in him too, thankfully, Mount wasn’t prepared to wait around and find out.
