Manchester United have recalled young talent Charlie Wellens from his loan deal at Oldham Athletic.
Wellens, 20, signed on loan with Oldham back in August on a deal scheduled to run until January 8.
Oldham boss John Sheridan told the club website at the time: “He’s currently on the right path to have a fantastic career and I’m sure he’ll thrive in a first-team environment.
“He’s got pace, he’s versatile and I’m looking forward to seeing him over the coming months for us.”
However, a managerial change saw Sheridan replaced by David Unsworth in late September.

Charlie Wellens recalled from loan
Manchester United and Oldham came to a mutual decision to end Wellens’ loan early, as he was not a part of their regular starting line-up.
The Salford born talent was negatively impacted by a change of manager, a frequent problem for Manchester United’s loanees.
Wellens made six appearances in total for a combined 319 minutes, approximately 3.5 full games.
He has just turned 20 this month and scored his first senior goal during the loan spell, when he was 19, netting a late winner to help Oldham to a 3-2 win over Eastleigh.
Oldham were relegated from League Two in June, ending a 116-tenure in the Football League.
They sit down in 21st out of 24 teams in the Vanarama Conference, with just five wins. Wellens’ winning goal could turn out to be valuable for them at the end of the season.
Wellens next step for United
Charlie Wellens has already been involved back at Manchester United, he was on the bench for the under-21s on Monday night as the side took on PSV Eindhoven in the Premier League Cup, a 2-0 defeat.
It is expected that United will attempt to fix Wellens up with another loan deal.
The Sun had reported in the summer that Wellens was set to join League Two side Crewe Alexandra, but this did not come off.
Wellens can play at both right-back or in central midfield. He featured on the right of midfield twice for Oldham during his spell there.
His contract at United runs until June 2023. Another loan will be valuable for him as he looks to kick on, and build on his first loan stint.
