Cesc Fabregas says ‘alarm bells’ should be ringing at Man Utd, despite Ten Hag being happy with form

Manchester United have been on fire in 2024 in terms of wins, but the performances have left Cesc Fabregas with serious concerns.

Even while winning four games on the bounce through February, there was always an underlying concern over how easily opposition teams could get at Manchester United.

No matter the opposition, they were able to get their chance at the United goal, with so much space on the transition.

Ultimately, Andre Onana came into his own at the right time as without him Erik ten Hag may have been in real trouble.

Now Cesc Fabregas has highlighted these exact concerns and sent a warning to the United boss.

Speaking on the Planet Premier League podcast on Thursday (February 29th), Fabregas admitted that he isn’t impressed by United as he made an admission that ‘alarm bells’ should be ringing.

“I have to say, with Ole, there were some good big games. He used to have a structure, they had a plan. At least you saw a plan which was to defend well and have great breaks and counter-attacks.

“This is exactly what Man United don’t have at the moment, it’s not good to analyse only one game, but I have the perception Man City are still very strong but with Man United, I don’t have the perception that they are a solid team at the moment.

“Looking carefully at the counters that Fulham did to them and the way they were done, this makes the alarm bells go. It cannot happen that a top, top team gets done on counters so many times in one half or over 60 minutes.

“This shows they are lacking something, I don’t know if it’s a gameplan, I don’t know if it’s structure, I don’t know if it’s a message, but definitely if this happened to my team there would be a lot of alarm bells.”

This contradicts Erik ten Hag’s confidence over recent form

Fabregas being so concerned over the current United team is a view Ten Hag doesn’t share.

The Dutchman said earlier this week to the BBC: “From January on we were in a positive trend and we played very good games and were progressing. We weren’t perfect still, but you saw the potential and we were winning games.”

This insistence on the win streak seeing some ‘very good games’ be played is just completely wrong as United were outplayed for large periods of each game, even against Luton.

The Fulham loss therefore was always coming and even against Nottingham Forest the side was very open defensively with Sofyan Amrabat helping possession be retained to limit the amount of chances they had.
