It says a lot about the excellent month Manchester United had in October that there were multiple contenders for the player of the month award.

In the end, it has gone to a deserving winner, with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro winning the award for the first time.

Casemiro beat strong competition from Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford, the three other nominees for the award.

There could quite easily have been other winners too, with David de Gea and Luke Shaw both putting together particularly strong form in recent weeks.

Casemiro has really been the difference though, since establishing himself as a regular starter. After sitting on the bench for the City defeat, he started every single game.

Casemiro wins player of the month

In his first start of the month, Casemiro provided an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo to score his first Premier League goal of the season, a winner away at Everton.

He went on to score his first Manchester United goal for the club, an injury time leveller against Chelsea.

It is these contributions in the final third which have made Casemiro really win fans over, in addition to his tremendous defensive work. He has shown himself to be an even better player than the one fans hoped they were getting.

He has demonstrated he is still a top player and has plenty to offer since deciding to leave Real Madrid in the summer for a new challenge.

Casemiro spoke at a press conference last night ahead of the Real Sociedad game, commenting: “All I think about is giving my all tomorrow on the pitch, in order to play a great game and help my team-mates.”

He also paid tribute to manager Erik ten Hag, adding: “I believe that, after being in football for quite a while, despite the fact I am only 30, his obsession for winning is what surprised me the most.”
