Casemiro talks up Antony

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, Casemiro said: “I think it’s really important to have such a quality player here [as Antony] with us. I knew him from the national team already.

“He’d played with us in Brazil, it’s always important to have players of Antony’s level. Not just him, we have a lot of top-quality players.”

As a player who has achieved almost everything in club football during a glittering career, Casemiro is an ideal mentor to Antony, a player who is only just getting started.

Antony has had a good start at United so far, scoring on his debut against Arsenal. He fills a clear need on the club’s right wing, with Jadon Sancho switching out to the left.

Casemiro has had a slower start, due to the surprise improvement in form from Scott McTominay.

But there’s no reason to be concerned. The move for Casemiro is an investment over the next few years, not just the next few weeks.

Once we reach mid-November, club football will pause for the World Cup, where Casemiro will continue his journey with Antony, and fellow Manchester United midfielder Fred.

This is an extra reason for Casemiro to be pleased with his move to Old Trafford, familiarity will help him at both club and international level in the months ahead.
